Teen Takes Anti-Bullying Campaign To Albany

A 16 year old teenager, tired of being a victim of cyber-bullying for years has taken her case to Albany. When Jaime went to her school for help and was told that “kids will be kids.” Fortunately for others, she was not taking this as a solution. Promoting a new bill from the senate, which is awaiting Cuomo’s signature, school officials will be required to take action against harassment and bullying. This might anger some who believe it is a natural state, but with bullying becoming a pandemic that is reaching kids 24/7, teaching coping skills may not be enough. Schools, health care worker and various other professions are trained as mandated reporters for instances of abuse. It is about time that abuse began encompassing those from peers as well. I’m not saying that we can forget about prevention, teaching coping skills and anything else, but there needs to be a measure of responsibility for those intrusted with our youth to say “This is not O.K.”
