San Diego Ad Campaign Invalidates Local Sex Trafficking Myths


A new campaign launched in July of 2016 by the San Diego District Attorney’s Office focuses on addressing some widespread myths regarding human trafficking in San Diego, and the entire United States as well.

As defined by the United Nations, sex trafficking includes sexual as well as labor exploitation, and is a local epidemic as much as a global one. UNICEF estimates about 1.5 million victims of human trafficking present in the United States (out of 27 million worldwide).

The “Ugly Truth” campaign aims to debunk common myths about trafficking with some quite straightforward messages, as well as some clever sarcasm such as, “Sex Trafficking? Not in America’s Finest City.” (MYTH!). The messages will be plastered across billboards, bus stops, and even played on radio stations.
