Can We Break Stereotypes?

A lot of speculation goes into what makes a racist’s mind…well, racist. A study done at Tel Aviv University found some connections between those who are categorical thinkers, a type of “creative stagnation,” and stereotypical thinking. These minds tend to be fixated, more comfortable with set beliefs on broad subjects. This is a fairly safe assumption as we see countless individuals stuck in the same dated, stereotypical bigotry that one would hear 50, 75, 100+ years ago against certain groups of people. The good news is that this line of thinking can be changed over time. The bad news is that it is usually linked to lazy thinking, and it would take an active approach to change that thinking. The researches associated with the study found that by utilizing intervention programs, they can simultaneously help a person overcome a fixated mind(and possible stereotypical thinking) as they also unlock creative process.
