Recession Cuts Could Cause Epidemic

A new worry in the current economic crisis; epidemic outbreaks.  Due to severe cut backs in state and federal agencies, we might be at risk for a rise in disease and epidemic outbreaks.  Budget cuts have made many agencies drop workers, services that they offer and even limit vaccinations.  The workers that do remain are overstretch like everyone else and the result could be a decline in monitoring, prevention and care of deadly diseases.  In Florida, despite being home to one of the largest outbreaks of TB, one of the reasons cited for this budget cut was it is “more attractive to business owners.”
When there is an outbreak of some pandemic, who will be shopping there? It’s a bizarre concept to cut lifesaving and measures in order to assist business owners. Is there not a business class somewhere that teaches guidelines about “If you’re customers are dying or dead, they can’t buy your stuff?” I wouldn’t know, I’m a social scientist, clearly this logic escapes me.
